How can a plant designed for the rain forest, breathe in an arid desert?
How can a person thrive in an environment that sucks them spiritually dry?
What if you could change the environment that surrounds you?
How would life look?
– “Challenge yourself, and believe!” –
No matter how we are nurtured as children (and later as adults), the environment that we inhabit will always affect us. It shapes our thinking and our sensibility, our opportunities and our choices.
Our environment often outlines for us the boundaries of duty and obligation. It seeks to define societal expectations for our behaviour and responses. It is our knowledge of these expectations that creates in us the understanding of ‘should’.
We commonly use ‘should’ when we feel the pressure of duty and obligation – yet in our hearts and souls, we desire an alternate course of action. It is difficult to journey away from the path of ‘should’ and choose instead to satisfy one’s own innate purpose and quest. It is a choice often judged to be selfish, thoughtless, self-centered, insensitive, and rebellious. It is a choice that often scares others.

The truth, however, is the opposite. To journey ‘inside’ oneself and away from the path of ‘should’ takes courage and effort. It can result in stumbling, confusion, mistakes, and pain. It can often be lonely and isolating.
It’s at times like these that we can take comfort from the analogy that daily the world weathers wind, rain, sunshine, and cloud. No matter what the storm, the sun sets and then rises again to meet a new day. With faith in ourselves, we too can build the strength to weather the many difficulties of our journey, knowing that this is the only path for soulful growth. Equally, we can also decide if the current environment that we inhabit is good for the growth and well-being of our soul. If it is not, perhaps we need find a more conducive environment, or try to limit our exposure to our existing one?

Fortitude to believe in oneself takes commitment to journey inside – to find the peace within and to explore our inner beauty. When we choose to live true to self, we acknowledge the uncertainty of the environment ahead, but have faith that our values and life purpose will guide us through good days and bad.
Breathe. Believe!
I met a woman five years ago when my book “Liberating Self” was first published. She looked at the images of soul beauties at peace in their soul environments, and angrily informed me that she wouldn’t consider doing such an image. The reality is, her environment and ceased serving her soul quite some time ago, but she wasn’t ready to tackle this truth.
You can imagine my delight when she contacted me this year and asked if I would photograph her soul beauty image. What a delight – of course I said “yes”!

She had found her courage to leave her place of “safety and security”, she had allowed her soul to journey with courage and faith in self. She had relocated to a new environment that supported her and allowed her to shine. Her first image of the day was her soul beauty image – serene and at peace. What a magical way to start a year!
Liberating Self is all about journeying towards an environment that nurtures the soul and allows us to be supported and live to true to self. It is not about having the courage to model for a nude photograph, it is about being at inner peace and happy in your world.
Liberating Self – A Soul’s Journey, explores the path of liberating self to choose to live our dreams and the wonderment that can occur when the soul’s courage is embraced.
